I'm re-reading Sharon Olds. She can be a bit internal, with her constant, winding, re-examination of all the places where those old truths (birth, sex, death) connect with her life, but she can also be profoundly beautiful.
love is simply our element,/it is the summer night, we are in it.
It makes me want to cry, it's so pure and perfectly resonant. This is the power of poetry - it reminds us that we are human, that we are all human in the same ways.
