[life] Smile!

It's been a very picture Christmas. I finally got my lazy, lead-filled ass in gear and put together some wedding picture albums for various people as presents, my brother-in-law has just begun a massive family archiving project which involved him dragging out stacks of family albums and a good friend of ours got an excellent new digital camera from his wife. Pictures, pictures, pictures.

I've been thinking for a while that I should be taking more pictures of our life. I'd love it if there were more pictures of my parents before my sister and I came along - I simply can't imagine what they were like as a pre-child couple - and that, coupled with the fact that Shawn's birth mother died when he was young and he's grateful for all the records of her life that are available, makes me keen to create our own visual history. I am meeting with some resistance to the idea, however. Shawn is reluctant to whip out the camera. I think this has something to do with him hating most every picture ever taken of him, but probably has more to do with the way that the presence of a camera implies the need to pose. I wish there was an invisible camera, maybe implanted in our heads, Steel Beach journalist style, and we'd just blink a certain way and "click!"

It would sure make it easier to take those action shots of the cats bodyslamming one another.

Regardless, I think that I'm just going to make him suck it up. It'll feel weird, but all new things do when you just start them. Doesn't mean that they aren't worth doing.
