[writing] working girl no longer
I quit my job today.
It's been a long time coming. I'm no longer at the point where I find serving tables to be either rewarding or unbearable (and I have found it both, in the past). I did it almost on autopilot, cruising through each day, barely seeing the customers, going home with sore feet and a blank mind.
I love my co-workers. As far as serving goes, there are far far worse places to serve, and infinitely worse people to work with. My manager is an absolute doll, I love her to pieces. But I was hanging onto the job as a kind of security blanket, a way to feel as though I was contributing financially to our household, a way to lend order and regularity to my life. It's time to let go. It's time for me to do the writing thing.
I'm a bit scared. And a bit sad. And a whole lot excited.

Congratulations! I've been wanting to give up the mindless deskjob I've had for the past dozen or so years.........maybe someday....

I'm lucky in that I have a spouse who not only is capable of carrying our financial responsibilities by himself, but also has encouraged me to quit and pursue my writing for months now. Now is the time, before we have kids and a second house and all kinds of other things to occupy my time.
Whee!
