[writing] Never stop learning
I am taking a poetry class, through the Manitoba Writer's guild, which is being taught by Chandra Mayor. I missed the first class, through my own absentmindedness, but went to the second last night. Turns out it's a bit more beginning-level than I thought, and I feel like I'm a bit out of place. But reviewing the basics is never a bad thing, and just being in a room full of writers is an exhilarating experience. I can feel the poems starting to bubble and froth. I think there is the start of a poem out of the free association we did at the end of class.
My main concern is going to be keeping my mouth shut and allowing the people who haven't taken a course like this before to come to some of the concepts on their own, rather than butting in all the time with the answers, which will serve no one but my ego. I know that there is always something to learn from other writers, regardless of how far along in their writing they are.
Humility, for one.
