[life] Roadside Attraction

Today, fate handed us a kitten.

My brother in law and his girlfriend were driving home down a back-country highway and discovered a small dark kitten cowering in the middle of the road, with no houses nearby, nor any indication from when he came. Being good hearted people, they stopped their van, picked up the lost little stranger, and took him with them. Being bound for an event and already late, they called us up and asked if we could take him in for the night. We, of course, said yes.

He's ensconced in the downstairs bathroom with a litterbox, food and water, and some comfy old pillowcases for a nest. He's been bathed, cuddled and made to purr. He's sneezing blood (not a great sign) but has eaten (good sign) and drunk and seems lively enough.

He's made a tiny little place in my heart already, the wily little bugger.

My husband sat holding him after the bath, rubbing down with a towel and getting that soft, starry look in his eyes, and said, "Some things happen for a reason."

We have agreed to sleep on it. We haven't named him yet. I'm sure that there are several reasons that I could come up with why we shouldn't keep him.

But I'm pretty sure that fate has handed us a kitten.
