Assuming 1667 words per day for 30 days to get 50 000 words by the end, I would need to have written 6668 words by the end of the fourth day to be "on target" as it were. My word debt is how many words I am behind that goal.
I'm hoping to make up the difference as I go, but so far the debt has been increasing instead of decreasing. I'm about to get into more gritty, interesting plot bits right away, so maybe I will get on a roll. :)

So what's this "word debt" that you're referring to? Is it how many words you are away from your daily goal?
I was doing fine with my word counts until I hit the weekend and tried to have some fun. The fun interfered with my writing. :p
